A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in Scunthorpe.

Officers from Humberside Police were called to reports of a stabbing on Queensway on Saturday afternoon at around 3.20pm, and the teenager was arrested at the scene.

It was reported that an 18-year-old man had sustained stab wounds to his stomach. He was taken to hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.

A scene guard remains in place as officers conduct enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident. A high police presence in the area is also expected into Saturday evening.

Detective Inspector Scott Miller said: “Understandably given the nature of this incident it will be concerning to the local community, however I want to offer my reassurance that we believe this to be an isolated incident between individuals known to each other.

“A scene guard is currently in place whilst officers conduct lines of enquiry to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“There will continue to be a high presence of officers in the area throughout the day and into the evening, providing additional reassurance to residents whilst enquiries continue. I would encourage anyone with any information, or anyone with concerns, to please come and speak to us.

“Our investigation is ongoing and I would ask anyone with any information, CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist with our enquiries, to please call our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 361 of 8 July."
