There is set to be increased police presence in Scunthorpe following a reported stabbing at the weekend as investigations continue.

A 14-year-old has been arrested on suspicion on attempted murder after Humberside Police officers were called to the scene of a stabbing on Queensway. Emergency services attended and an 18-year-old was taken to hospital after being stabbed in the stomach.

His injuries aren't thought to be life threatening at this time. The 14-year-old has been released on bail whilst officers continue with lines of enquiry since the incident at 3.20pm on Saturday, 8 July.

Detective Inspector Darren Critten of Humberside Police said: “Understandably given the nature of this incident it will be concerning to the local community; however, I would like to offer reassurance that this is believed to be an incident between individuals known to each other.

“Our investigation is continuing as we look to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Locals can expect to see an increased police presence in the area, providing additional reassurance to residents whilst our enquiries continue.

“I would encourage anyone with any information, or anyone with concerns, to please come and speak to us.
