A 12-year-old boy has suffered serious injuries to his head and face after he was "assaulted by a teenager" in a Scunthorpe park.

The victim was reportedly attacked by a teenage boy, who is believed to be around 15 years old, on Saturday (July 1) between 4.30pm and 5.30pm in Parkwood Park, in Plymouth Road.

The teen then fled the scene, and police have since launched an appeal to find witnesses to the incident, or anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the assault.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses following an assault on Plymouth Road in Scunthorpe on Saturday 1 July.

"Whilst in Parkwood Park between 4.30pm and 5.30pm a 12-year-old boy sustained serious injuries to his face and head after being assaulted by teenage boy, believed to be approximately 15-years-old.

"The teenager fled the scene following and we are now appealing for anyone who may have any information to please come forward.

"Our enquiries are currently ongoing, and we would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident, or anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist, to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 23000093976."
